MARK RONDEAU: EDITOR, WRITER, PHOTOGRAPHER
Mark E. Rondeau, a resident of North Adams, Mass., is an award-winning journalist with almost 25 years of professional experience. He is currently an editor at a daily newspaper in Vermont.
He has written for and edited both daily and weekly newspapers. A practicing Catholic, Mark has written freelance for many Catholic publications over the years, including diocesan newspapers in Florida, New Jersey, Massachusetts and Vermont. His work has appeared in such national publications as America, U.S. Catholic, Commonweal and St. Anthony Messenger.
Mark has had an extensive career as a freelance writer and editor, has done many articles for Williams College on a wide variety of topics and is also bulletin editor at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church.
Mark’s interests and activities include local history, religion, politics, the environment, music, the arts, and community activism. An extensive photographic and written record of Mark’s explorations of the Mount Greylock State Reservation is included on this site. Also on this site are excerpts from Mark’s book, “A People of Faith, Hope and Love: The First 100 years of St. Anthony of Padua Church.” This 2003 book is a carefully researched history of the Italian national parish in North Adams, which was later merged with other churches in the city into St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church.
In whatever small ways he can, Mark argues that the Catholic Church must seek reform by adhering to the Gospel and embracing the truth with humility. What we need is a servant church run by servant leaders led by the spirit and letter of Vatican Council II, not by authoritarians who take their cue from right-wing bloggers and the neo-cons on EWTN. Many of Mark’s writings about religion and politics are included on this site.
As a community activist, Mark is currently involved in two important initiatives. One is the Northern Berkshire Family Caregiver Resource Guide. (View as a PDF by clicking link below). The other is the Northern Berkshire Interfaith Action Initiative. (Visit its blog by clicking on the other link below).
Mark adds new material to this site periodically. To contact him, e-mail markrondeau@earthlink.net.
